2nd European championships for radio controlled planes. Reinhardt Liese (West Germany) takes 1st place.
Austria, West Germany and Holland dominated both the individual and team events in the finals of the second European championships for radio controlled glider planes held in the Negev desert town of Beersheva on Saturday (23/8). Over twenty competitors from seven countries took part in the championships, which were divided into three stages - endurance, distance and velocity. The Austrians won the team event followed by West Germany and Holland. However, the West Germans got their revenge by taking first place in the individual championship through Reinhardt Liese. Joris Teanholt of Holland was second and Austria's Karl Wasner Junior was third. There were also impressive displays of other radio controlled aircraft, including helicopters and stunt planes. The link between the smaller-than-life models and real aircraft was made by a display of one-seater microlight flying machines.
