Translating evidence from successful trials into everyday clinical practice is notoriously difficult. The Quality in Acute Stroke Care (QASC) Trial demonstrated that multidisciplinary, nurse-led interventions to manage fever, hyperglycaemia and swallowing difficulties following acute stroke decreased death and dependency by 16%. Dedicated funding and industry collaboration was required to implement the QASC evidence based clinical treatment protocols across a large geographical area within a short 12-month time frame. Two years after publication of the QASC trial results in the Lancet, this film describes the journey of the QASC Implementation Project, occurring in all 36 stroke services in New South Wales, Australia's most populous state.
