In recognition of the 50th Anniversary of the Convention on Wetlands, the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands, in collaboration with Youth Engaged in Wetlands, hosted a virtual “intergenerational dialogue”. As global leaders seek to enhance global action in the coming months across the climate change, biodiversity loss and broader sustainable development agenda, the Convention’s anniversary falls at a critical time to scale greater action on wetlands for human and planetary health.
The Secretariat would like to thank Mr Eckhart Kuijken, representative of Belgium to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in 1971, for his recollections of the founding of the Convention in 1971.
