The Waitakere Dam Walk offers a leisurely downhill stroll to Aucklands oldest water reservoir.
The walking track is actually a sealed road used for maintenance access to the dam, and for the Ark in the Park volunteers who maintain the network of bait lines and traps that help control pests in the Waitakere Ranges rainforest.
Once you get to the dam, explore a little and follow the stairs down the face of the dam to find the abandoned tram lines and a magnificent view north.
Stretch your ham strings before heading back up to the car park at the start of the track on Scenic Drive - It's a decent push to get back up the hill!
