The Iraqi government have released video footage showing military aircraft bombing suspected hideouts of militants in Mosul.
The city, which had close to two million inhabitants, was taken by members of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (Isis) about two weeks ago.
Since then, several key cities have fallen to the al-Qaeda affiliated group. including Tikrit and Qaim with hundreds of thousands of people fleeing the violence.
The Kurdish regional government says at least 300-thousand refugees have escaped to the north Kurdistan region.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is facing mounting pressure to form an inclusive government or step aside, with both a top Shia cleric and the White House strongly hinting he is in part to blame for the worst crisis since US troops withdrew from the country at the end of 2011.
This latest video follows an aerial attack by military forces earlier this month.
