Get to know the North Loop, a once abandoned district that has been transformed into the city’s shining star filled with enticing boutiques, popular taprooms, and live music venues.
This private Lip Smacking Foodie Tour kicks off with a bang at Mara, the Mediterranean restaurant that opened just last year. It’s helmed by Minneapolis native Gavin Kaysen, a James Beard “Best Chef Midwest’’ Award winner who formerly headed culinary operations for the celebrated Daniel Boulud in New York. Honored as “Restaurant of the Year’’ in 2022 by the Star Tribune, Mara proudly showcases the flavors and techniques of 22 countries.
Next, it’s Maison Margaux, the modern French brasserie opened by Chef David Fhima in one of the North Loop’s most historic buildings. The three-story establishment with exposed brick and timber, checkerboard floor, plus a swank underground speakeasy, serves a menu of heightened classics done with reverence and flair.
Lastly, it’s on to Bar La Grassa, the evocative Italian restaurant done up with both rustic brick walls and sparkly chandeliers. Headed by Chef Isaac Becker, another James Beard “Best Chef Midwest’’ winner and a Food & Wine magazine “Star Chef,’’ it excels in traditional antipasti, lusty pastas, and luscious desserts.
