Grilled Flank Steak
Ingredients:
- 5 cloves of garlic
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp ksher salt
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 1 tbsp Herbs de Provence
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Steps:
1. Mix all ingredients together to prepare the marinade
2. Slice shallow cross marks into each side of the steak. This will help marinade the meat and increases the surface area of the cooking surface of the steak to maximize flavor.
3. Marinade the steak overnight in the refrigerator in a storage bag.
4. Preheat grill on high using all burners and coat the grill with olive oil
5. You will want to grill the steak for 3 to 5 minutes (3 med-rare, 5 med-well) and place it on the other side of the grill where it has been heating up hot when flipping the steak.
6. Grill for another 3 to 5 minutes (3 med-rare, 5 med-well) and rotate 90° when flipping, again, onto the unused part of the grill where it has been getting hot. This will make the signature hash pattern grill marks on your steak
7. Grill another 3 to 5 minutes (3 med-rare, 5 med-well).
8. Allow the steak to rest for at least 10 minutes. It will continue to cook in the time and maintain the juices.
TIPS:
- You can never use too much garlic.
- Use kosher salt. This makes a big difference.
- Slice the flank steak...this will allow the steak to absorb the marinade better and increase the surface area of the steak. The best part of the steak arguably the edges of the steak that caramelizes over the flame. These slices will maximize this effect resulting in an absolutely delicious steak.
- Grease the grill grate.
