Divisions across the city came together at the Emergency Operations Centre in Byron on Wednesday, June 20, to participate in a large scale emergency training exercise. Police, Fire, and city staff from all levels, along with community partner, Canada Pacific Railway, used augmented reality glasses to see a fabricated train derailment scene. They worked together to determine what happened, what resources they needed to mitigate the situation and keep the public safe. Planning, logistics, finance and communications arranged plans to tend to sick and/or injured residents, reroute traffic and those living nearby and share updated information. The policy team used this simulated situation to determine how to keep other aspects of the city running smoothly. This was only a drill.
