The second race in this winter's Ås by Night & Fog Cup! This is the longest-running Night-O series in Norway (in the World?), and the organizers make a very good job looking for the most interesting terrains they can find, with an emphasis on difficult orienteering.
I navigated well to the first three controls, then at 28:16 I stumbled and twisted my compass house by about 30 degrees. I understood this about 90 seconds later and corrected with no significant time loss.
However, when I hit #4 perfectly, but from a different direction than originally planned, I managed to make a 180 degree error, leaving the control in the opposite direction! After losing a few minutes on this I did orienteer well to #5 except that when I saw the control boulder it was so big that I was sure it would have been drawn as an extra large boulder, so I didn't initially check if the flag was actually there. Maybe 30 sec lost?
The real disaster happened on my way to #7 (at 47:43 in the video) when I slid down a small cliff face to an intermediate ledge and dropped my map without noticing it until I was at the bottom of the hillside.
After climbing back up to control #6 I managed to retrace my steps exactly and found the map again after almost 10 minutes of searching!
System setup:
GoPro 11 Black
Quickroute to adjust the tracking and define the control locations
Headcam Orienteering ( [ Ссылка ] ) does all the video generation.
