James hoy makes some of THE best rangs in the world, he manages to source and use the very best materials around, some of those materials are very rare indeed and take a great deal of effort to get your hands on and once used up probably you won’t see them used again and this makes his boomerangs very unique and special, they certainly stand out from the croud.
He has mastered making them from many different hi-tech materials including aircraft grade plywood, carbon fibre, g12, strip laminated, also he goes to great lengths to find and make booms from natural elbows which is an art in itself, you name it he has mastered it !
While his work is influenced by various makers, the maker that stands out the most that has influenced him is of course the late great Herb A Smith who was a British pioneer in making boomerangs himself, this shows in the work James does including the foils he carves which contribute to making his boomerangs simply world class !
James holds the current British long distance record and has a particular interest and very skilled expert in creating and throwing LD rangs yet still loves throwing old school LD rangs, his main throwing feild is called the dips on the promenade in the Wirral, if your in the area go down and say hello and watch the master throw some of his booms, I can tell you it’s a real eye opener to see him throw !
If you like to throw boomerangs and you don’t own any hoys you are SERIOUSLY missing out !
If your new to throwing a “Hoy” boom then I would suggest you start by trying out his “Dragonfly II”
While his booms are certainly not for the faint hearted and are for the more experienced throwers, I would suggest his dragonfly is a great first hoy to own, he makes nearly all his rangs to order and if you have any special requests just simply ask !

Just so there is no confusion the bottom two booms in the video where actually carved by me from a couple genuine hoy blancs he kindly sold to me so I could try out my own foils 😅
