Basil the Brain encounters lots of different things during each day, however he’s built to forget most of it. After all he doesn’t need to remember every moment of brushing his teeth for the last 20 years!
When it comes to studying though he wishes he could get more information to stick. After attending a lecture, he struggles to recall what was covered.
That was until Professor EQ started using creative stories and narratives in his teaching to engage Basil and his friends and help them understand and apply challenging concepts.
An advantage to this storified approach to education is that it encourages visualisation that helps form lasting memories by presenting content in a coherent and connected way, much easier to remember than isolated and disconnected facts and concepts.
Stories or narratives can be used as a way to provide students with their first exposure to complex or abstract concepts and can help them digest the new information and build on previous information and move towards better understanding.
Storytelling is a human art form and even Health Profession’s education, is not outside the world of human experience or the art of storytelling.
