🌑 Welcome to Day 7 of this 30 days of yoga ~ Moon Yoga Series! This is a yoga journey following the lunar cycle and today we are around the point of the First Quarter - the moon looking like half a beautiful round crystal in the night sky. The energy is still gentle but a bit more flowing and vibrant, as we move into Spring and the Air element. We start seated, and although we stay low, we move through some slightly more flowing postures, including the ‘womb’ deer pose sequence, before lying down for a few stretches and the final relaxation. This will be the seventh day of your menstrual cycle, should you be following that instead.
🌒 The First Quarter and Spring - still opening to new beginnings, renewal, ideas, inspiration, creativity, playfulness, planting seeds, a fresh start. Feel free to journal alongside this 30 day yoga series, as the yoga practice may release some emotions, feelings, thoughts and ideas as you journey with the moon.
🌓 This beautiful moon yoga series follows the lunar cycle - the phases of the moon. It spans a whole month, starting with the new moon (dark moon) 🌑 through the waxing crescent 🌒 first quarter 🌓 waxing gibbous 🌔 full moon 🌕 waning gibbous 🌖 the last quarter 🌗 waning crescent 🌘 and finally back to the new moon (dark moon) 🌑
🌔 The yoga asana (postures) and pranayama (breath) follow the energy of the time of the month - which phase the moon is at in its cycle. We start with the element Earth during the waxing crescent (from the new moon and for a few days), which incorporates the season of Winter (and the archetype of Crone, if you’re using it with your menstrual cycle). We then move onto Air and Spring (Maiden) during the time of the waxing crescent and first quarter, into waxing gibbous. From here we span the days around the full moon into the waning gibbous, the time of Fire and Summer (Mother). Moving with the waning moon into Water and Autumn (Wise Woman) to the last quarter. Finally, back to Earth and Winter (Crone) with the waning crescent and the final dark moon (just before the new moon).
🌕 Each day we practice yoga together as the moon becomes bigger and brighter during the waxing phase, reaching full moon by the middle of the month. To begin with the practices include slow and gentle exercises and breathwork, then move into flowing movements, stronger held asana (postures) and stronger breath. The energy slowly 'wanes' with the moon as she becomes smaller and we move into a gentle, quiet yoga practice once again. By the final stage of this yoga series we are back to the dark moon (new moon), ready for a deep relaxation Yoga Nidra!
