Remember that the size of footing depends on three things, no 1 sizes of Column no 2 carrying load of Column and no 3 bearing capacity of the soil, okay here is an example calculate the size of footing for a column which have 304mm by 304mm which is approximately 12 by 12 inches Column, and carrying a load of 285kn and the safe bearing capacity is 170kn/m², okay here is given data the depth of footing is 304mm
Load on Column is 285kn
And safe bearing capacity is 170kn/m²
And remember that as per is codes we need to add 10% extra load to the given load on footing for safety factors but it is just recommend by the is codes that we have to add 10% extra load to the given load on footing, if we design a footing we can aslo add 10% due to the self weight of the soil, okay if we add 10% of load so it will give us 285+28.5= 313.5
