Paul Becker was born in Victoria BC Canada. His parents encouraged his creativity as a child and also the value of hard work as he has worked since he was twelve years old. That combination is instilled in him today.
A self taught b-boy, Paul would find himself dancing in clubs and battles in his city. One day he followed two girls into a hip hop class and it was there where he found his passion for dance. The teacher encouraged him to train every style and he quickly excelled in everything from Jazz, tap, ballroom, capoeira, gymnastics, musical theatre and many other styles. Because of his roots and the way he was trained, it has allowed Paul to create such unique works as a choreographer.
Paul finished school early and moved to Las Vegas in his late teens where he trained circus school and worked the strip for a brief period. It was there where he realized that he needed to move back to Vancouver to pursue a film and tv career as a choreographer. Once in Vancouver, Paul made a name for himself as a go-to choreographer in the film world. In Vancouver Paul has choreographed hundreds of film and tv shows. It didn’t take long for the positive word to spread, causing Paul to work all over the world creating, producing, choreographing, and directing all genres of projects.
Paul Becker is a trusted friend and the go-to collaborator for many of Hollywood's biggest productions. He has worked closely with everyone from Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, The Muppets, Michael Buble, Ciara and even directed and created for Kanye West.
Paul is following in the footsteps of choreographers turned directors like Fosse, and Rob Marshall as he just wrote, directed, and choreographed the film “Breaking Brooklyn” for Lionsgate Studios starring Academy Award winner Louis Gossett Jr.
Becker’s impressive body of work ranges from choreographing over 300 film and tv projects, like recently Wreck-it Ralph 2 for Disney Animation, CW's "Charmed", Goodboys for Universal, and "Valley Of the Boom" coming to NatGeo this new year. Past works: “Deadpool 2, “Overboard” for MGM, ”“Twilight”, & “Mirror Mirror” and Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch” to “Diary of a Wimpy Kid 1-3”, & was the series choreographer for “A Series of Unfortunate Events”(Netflix), “Once Upon” a Time”(ABC), CW's hit show "Riverdale", and created every finger spell through finger tuts in SyFy's hit show “The Magicians”.
Becker recently was nominated for a second World Choreography Award for his work with his mentor, famed director Kenny Ortega, as his choreography partner for Disney Channel's mega-hit musical Descendants starring Dove Cameron.
If that isn’t enough… Paul just finished creating two live touring shows for Sesame Street and was the creative director of the PanAm Games. He is the series choreographer for three new shows: “Valley of the Boom” for NatGeo, "Frankie Drake" for BBC, and “Motherland” releasing in 2019. He also just wrapped a Seth Rogan produced a film called "Good Boys" for Universal and Anna Kendrick's new Disney film "Noelle" to also be released in 2019.
