Local 15's Taren Reed reported earlier this week that Apple's newest iPhones and iOS8 software protects users' information, even from law enforcement. Well that's not sitting well with the FBI.
Apple and Google are winning praise from privacy proponents for making new smart phones better than ever at protecting private data. But the FBI's boss says that's a big problem for criminal investigators.
James Comey accuses Google and Apple of marketing products that make data inaccessible by default. That means both iOS and Android users will be able to set a password to access personal data.
The FBI director said such measures let criminals place themselves above the law. Comey said that could prove especially problematic in urgent investigations, such as those involving kidnapping or terrorism.
What do you think about smart phone privacy and law enforcement? Do you think data should remain private even if it could aid in an investigation?
