In this video I start removing the interior of a 1978 Starcraft travel trailer. I acquired this trailer last month for $200. I wanted to get some of the propane appliances for some other projects but the price was hard to pass up so I ended up with this new project. With the previous repairs and the damage they were covering, the decision was was made to remove all of the walls, appliances, plumbing and cabinets to expose the rot and repairs that needed to be addressed.
This particular model uses a couple sizes of a unique square type head. I'm sure they are standard for the era.
After removing the former repairs that had been done over the years, there were pipes were cut, hoses disconnected and vents covered up. This never addressed the areas the unit was leaking in which resulted in more rot.
After 3 weeks with about a full day invested, I am close to having the interior gutted. There are a lot of great parts in here. I have not tested any of the propane appliances yet but there is a refrigerator, stove, water heater & furnace. Plus water tanks, piping, 30 Amp extension cord and the frame appears to be in great shape. The roof is in need of repairs.
Let me know what you think. Have you done repairs like this before? What tips do you have for myself or others?
