SUPPORTING NATIONAL FOOD SYSTEMS TRANSFORMATION PATHWAYS:
Enhancing donor effectiveness and coordination
at the country level in times of crises
On Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 June 2022, the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development (GDPRD) hosts its 2022 Annual General Assembly (AGA), on “Implementing National Pathways for Food Systems Transformation to Accelerate Progress Towards the SDGs in Times of Crisis and Conflict”.
The AGA is an annual event that provides an open space for debate to members, partners and invited guests on emerging policy topics in agriculture and rural development. AGA participants benefit from the core services of the Donor Platform: strategic influencing, knowledge sharing, and networking on key development issues and strategic directions that affect lives in rural areas.
National pathways are essential for food systems transformation because food systems are context-specific and there are no one-size-fits-all solutions. Donor coordination should therefore go beyond global hubs by focusing on strong harmonization at national and subnational levels. Pathways for change will need to be nationally developed, cross-sectoral, inclusive, and locally owned. Policy and funding initiatives have to be coordinated and collaborative with existing international institutions, such as the United Nations Rome-based Agencies and UN resident coordinators, to ensure coherence at national, regional and global level.
