On March 1, 2019, TDOT contract crews began long-term lane closures on Interstate 440 in Nashville, Davidson County. The closures are part of the reconstruction of the 7.6 mile corridor. During construction, the entire corridor will have narrow lane widths and no shoulders, with two travel lanes in each direction open during the day and one travel lane in each direction open at night.
Heavy congestion, backups, and delays are expected as a result of the lane closures and construction. In an effort to keep traffic moving, TDOT has developed an aggressive incident management plan.
Using state resources and coordinating with local agencies, TDOT will be able to continually monitor roadway conditions, alert travelers of delays, and quickly clear incidents.
Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes during construction. Motorists who must travel the corridor are urged to obey the reduced speed limit, keep vehicles well maintained and fueled, and move any disabled or damaged vehicles off the roadway whenever possible.
