Today, in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about Bandy.
Bandy is a limited-contact, winter sport that is played on ice.
The game shares a lot of similarities with Ice Hockey and Association Football.
The objective of Bandy is to direct a round ball into the goal of the opponent using a bandy stick.
Bandy is played between two teams with 11 members in each team.
The duration of the game is 90 minutes which is divided into two equal halves of 45 minutes.
The game is played on a bandy field which is similar in size to a football pitch.
It is mandatory for players to wear skates, helmets, and pads.
The goalkeeper must also equip himself with a mouthguard.
The players are allowed to use any part of their bodies to move the ball around other than their heads, hands, or arms.
At the end of the game, the team with the most goals win.
In case the game ends up in a draw, extra fifteen minutes are given to each team.
The first team to score a goal in these extra fifteen minutes win the match.
Penalty shootouts are also used to break the tie.
