CSIS, in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is conducting a yearlong research project on the United States’ role in advancing the digital public infrastructure (DPI) agenda to expand economic growth and women’s economic empowerment in developing countries.
As digital transformation accelerates worldwide, we need to recognize the importance of DPI in enabling digital services and promoting innovation. DPI as a concept is neither new nor tied to one country or region and it is evolving. The international community needs to elevate and broaden the dialogue surrounding DPI to maximize its transformative impact. DPI facilitates streamlined interactions between citizens and the government, offering convenient access to services, reducing bureaucracy, and enhancing transparency. By providing a robust framework for digital services, DPI enables governments to deliver efficient and citizen-centric goods while ensuring security, privacy, and accessibility.
This event will serve as an overview and introduction to DPI from the point of view of different U.S. and international organizations and will focus on the following questions:
What is DPI and why is it important for international development?
What role can the U.S. government play in accelerating the adoption of DPI in developing countries?
How can the U.S. government work with the international community to inspire country deployment of DPI at scale?
This event is made possible through the generous support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
