University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign history professor Robert Morrissey discusses the ecology of the tallgrass prairies of the Midwest and how it shaped the cultures and created unique opportunities for the Indigenous people who lived there. Morrissey wrote about the intersection of environmental history and the history of Native peoples in early America in his book “People of the Ecotone.”
