Check out the steep descent from the cockpit of a C-17 Globemaster as it drops fast during a combat landing on a war-torn runway in Afghanistan. Pilot came in too fast, but the plane mostly held together. You can hear the audible "terrain" and "minimum" alerts from the TAWS system but not what the pilot was saying over the intercom: "Too fast!!, I didn't mean to have this much speed!!!!" I thought they might pull up and make another slower pass but they just barreled right in. You don't want to be flying low and slow, loitering about in a giant flying target in the mountainous terrain of Afghanistan.
