Around Falkirk East in 80 Days: Skills.
Education and skills are critical, particularly for future generations.
We need to grasp the international opportunities becoming available.
We need to raise our ambitions on behalf of our young people and our economy - only the very best should be good enough.
We need further development in world leading skills provision. To date, there's been a focus on competence, but as a recent report commissioned by the SNP Government highlighted, we need to target international excellence.
We should move beyond benchmarking Scotland skills system against other nations in the UK and refocus on international benchmarking against the best in the world. This would also support the SNP Government's ambitious international trade policies.
Some young people require supported first steps into skills training.
We're lucky in having colleges who've already developed the capacity and provision to provide this opportunity. I will champion the role of our colleges, such a Forth Valley College can play.
Bye!
