Tensions boiled over at a protest against South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, when protestors broke through police barricades to occupy a road in Seoul leading to his presidential residence on January 5. Having initially been kept one side of the 10-lane single carriage way for most of the day, a group of protestors pushed past a wall of police and metal barricades at around 4:14 p.m. (0714 GMT), with the entire anti-Yoon rally eventually moving over into all lanes of the road, forcing police to close off traffic access. With an arrest warrant against Yoon for alleged insurrection expiring at midnight on January 6, multiple groups have been holding demonstrations near his official residence, some urging his immediate arrest and others protesting against it.
