I was really happy to find this little book which I bought back in the early nineties. Swill Basket making was an important part of the local industry in the South Lakes (at one time over 600 men worked in the woods here), There is one person making them now who lives at Nibthwaite near Coniston water. They are very sturdy and will last for years. A great natural product that utilises material through coppicing woodland.
I show some photographs of the wood I coppiced in the early nineties, and some of the products I made.
