François Bayrou, 73, has been a well-known figure in French politics for decades. Founder and leader of the Mouvement Démocratique Centriste (MoDem), he is also known to the French public for having been Minister of Education from 1993 to 1997 in a conservative government, but above all for having run for President three times. He was appointed Prime minister by Emmanuel Macron on Friday.
