U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich along with U.S. Representative Raul M. Grijalva, have introduced the Clean Energy Minerals Reform Act to update our mining laws for the first time in 151 years. Their bill would protect sacred and special places from mining activity, enact strong environmental and public health protections, require mining companies to pay a royalty for minerals extracted on public lands, and mandate that companies clean up their messes when mining activities conclude. We must support this.
