The first leg of the FIDE Grand Prix series takes place February 4-17, 2022 in Berlin, Germany. In the first stage, 16 players are divided into four separate groups and each group will play a double round-robin tournament. The winner of each group will qualify for the semi-finals of a playoff bracket. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes to finish the game with a 30-second increment starting from move one.
