Camshaft and Crankshaft sensors work the same way
and they will fail in the same way also. A common problem when diagnosing is that the crank and cam sensor only fail when the engine is turned off there fore not setting a fault code, this is due to the engine Bay temperature raising after the engine is turned off for the first 15 or 20 minutes,
this increased engine bay temperature causes cam and crank sensors to go open circuit due to expansion, if the vehicle does not start when hot starts and runs fine when cold or left 30 to 40 minutes to cool this is usually cam or crankshaft sensor problem.
Audi, BMW, Ford, Mercedes, Seat, VW, Skoda, Renault, Land Rover all have the same peril.
engine cranking but not starting and no fault codes
