Interviewer:
When should they call an attorney?
Mr. Ramsay:
They should call an attorney immediately after they've informed their employer. If you call an attorney prior to informing employer that's the first thing an attorney is going to tell you, so go ahead and inform the employer right away. Then the employer will inform the insurance company that represents them of the work compensation injury. Then you need to call an attorney immediately. Don't wait until the employer decides to say, "Okay, I'll send you to a doctor".
The reason I tell you call an attorney rather quickly it's because in worker's compensation it matters who the doctor is. It's sad and unfortunate. But not every doctor is there to provide you the benefits or the treatment that you need. A lot of doctors may push to get you back to work quicker than you are ready for. It's very important that you not only get a doctor but that you get the right doctor. That's what attorneys do. We get you to the right doctor, for the right treatment, to give you the right result.
