Tirupati Laddu Row Update: Supreme Court Takes Big Action, Orders CBI Monitored SIT Probe
Supreme court orders CBI monitored probe into Tirupati laddu controversy. The apex court formed a SIT to probe allegations of substandard ghee used in Tirupati laddus under the previous Andhra Pradesh government. SIT will include members from the CBI, state police, and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. The court emphasized that the allegations could potentially hurt the sentiments of devotees worldwide. "In order to assuage the feelings of crores of people, we find that an investigation by an independent SIT consisting of representatives of state police, CBI and FSSAI shall be done". SC clarified that the investigation aims to address the concerns of devotees of the Sri Venkateswara Temple and should not imply doubts about the state SIT's fairness. Furthermore, the court refrained from commenting on the merits of the allegations, stating it would not allow itself to be used as a 'political battleground'
