This summer’s glassblowing workshop saw eight young students and graduates and six expert glass artisans congregate on the windswept island of Belle-Île-en-Mer, off the coast of Brittany, for a week to immerse themselves in the craft. Organised by the French Hot Glass Family association, which has slowly turned the island into a centre for glassmaking in France, the course focused on choreography and movement, and creating new large-scale pieces for the association’s collection. “It was interesting to see how the glass masters approached the same techniques in different ways,” said attendee Mantas Svidras.
