Can you work as a #ServiceDesigner in a field, sector or industry where you've never worked in before?
How do you respond when a client asks how much experience you have in for instance the health care sector or in the airline industry? Which is actually a quite common question...
And it makes sense because from a clients point of view of your client it helps when you've got some experienced in a field.
But I think it doesn't really matter.
Actually sometimes it's better to not have any prior experience as you'll be able to approach challenges with a fresh mindset and unbiased perspective.
But the most important reason why it doesn't matter is because you -as a service designer- should never be in the postion to be the field expert. Your client should always have that role.
As a service designer your most important task is to facilitate the proces and help them share bring in the required knowledge.
So I'd say don't be intimidated when a client asks you how much experience you have in a certain field.
But what do you think?
Do you need experience to do a good job as a service designer?
