Gag grouper are plentiful off of Northern Pinellas county and Pasco County. On this trip we leave out of Port Richey Florida on a mission to explore some new bottom. We caught more grouper than we expected, along with mangrove snapper, red grouper, amberjack, and even a cobia.
The continental shelf extends far from shore here and the waters are much shallower than other areas of the gulf. We ran over 40 miles out to reach sufficient depth. We were not disappointed when we arrived though. It was a great day of fishing and we definitely verified some of our fishy intelligence reports.
