The UAE has reportedly suspended a $23bn weapons deal with the US to buy advanced F-35 fighter jets. The UAE embassy in Washington said that it is suspending talks on the deal, while meetings with Pentagon will proceed as planned. The move comes days after UAE agreed to buy 80 Rafale jets from France for $15.8bn. Experts say that the deal with France came as a message to Washington that Emiratis have options to buy weapons from elsewhere. However, UAE’s Defence Ministry had said that the Rafale Jets would complement the purchase of American F-35 Jets. Some experts say that the weapons deal with US also came with a lot of conditions for the UAE.
