A stroke or a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) occurs when a sudden interruption in the blood flow and nutrient supply to a part of your brain. It is a medical emergency. CVA could be due to a block or rupture of the artery. Unless you receive medical attention at the earliest, severe damage to the brain can lead to some long-term disability. The outcome can be fatal too. Post-stroke, one may present these symptoms: weakness of muscles, usually on one side of the body, difficulty walking, vision disturbance, slurring speech, poor balance, coordination, and generalized pain. The treatment mainly involves rehabilitation depending upon the symptoms and maintaining clear airways. The therapy duration will be long-term, depending on the severity of brain damage. A multidisciplinary approach is essential.
