Poem of the Little Stars (1923) is a little lesser-known gem of Carlos Salzedo (1885–1961)'s works from the early 1920s. The piece is mostly comprised of two types of harmonics, some sounding an octave above the pitch played and others a fifth above the pitch played. The latter technique is achieved by bringing one's hand higher up the string to find and create that harmonic. This technique facilitates the realization of chromatic scales without the use of pedals.
