Spirulina is a powerful antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties. This means it can help lower the chance of metabolic diseases. Spirulina does not have enough amounts of iodine. Use it in place of kelp or iodine drops to fulfill the nutrient requirements.
DIY feeders add kelp to meet NRC iodine requirements. If you are feeding kibble, it’s best to omit this supplement. An overdose of iodine can have adverse health effects on the thyroid. But spirulina is excellent to add to all diets! Since it is so nutrient-dense, a little goes a long way! Around 1/16 tsp a few times a week is all you need for your dog’s health to reap the benefits.
