Pure Trucking Action gears up for epic 2017 season
It was one of the closest and most exciting seasons in recent FIA European Truck Racing Championship history. That was 2016, but now in 2017 there is every indication that an even more thrilling encounter is about to begin.
The genesis of it will come at the Red Bull Ring, the now traditional season opening weekend of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. The scenic Styrian backdrop will be a convenient setting for a full grid of motorsports acknowledged monsters. Monsters that rock!
2017 will be the second season where promoters – the European Truck Racing Association (ETRA) have been in the cockpit and at the controls of the world’s best and biggest truck racing championship.
Last season saw not only a supremely competitive competition on the track but innovation and leadership off it. We could shorten this: Nearly half a million people came to the 9 race weekends that had been hosted all across Europe. Through the intense cross-channel measures with regard to entertaining onsite event activities in the fan village as well as comprehensive communication activities in PR, online and social media as well as on TV, the race series promoter ETRA has reached more than 90 million people worldwide.
Of course, what made the content stand out were the stars of the show – the trucks and the drivers. Last season Jochen Hahn and Adam Lacko provided intrigue and excitement throughout the season, fighting tooth and nail for the coveted FIA European Truck Racing Championship trophy.
Their battles throughout Europe were the main event at all the races. But the supporting cast got their fair share of the limelight too.
In addition to the great well-known names in the FIA ETRC there are were also new faces on the block. This is a trend set to continue in 2017. Not only 3-time European Champion Antonio Albacete will be returning to the race series, but also the winners of the British, French and Finnish national championships, Ryan Smith, Thomas Robineau and John Hemming. Just as important as to what happens on the track is what goes on off it. For 2017 there will be increased focus on the trucking industry and the transfer between track and road.
“The sporting and the industry trucking community will come together more than ever in 2017,” says ETRA director, Georg Fuchs. “The dynamic that exists between racing and road is common in all types of racing but in the FIA ETRC there is the added scope of trucking being a vital and key ingredient in society and in industry.”
100% Pure Racing Action is the mantra for 2017, and who would bet against it matching up to an unforgettable season in 2016 when a fresh and bright new face of FIA ETRC was born.
It will be fascinating season ahead and one that will see a variety of stories play out across Europe in the biggest and the most competitive truck racing competition on earth – the FIA ETRC.
