Participants of the 40th (2019-21) and 41st (2020-22) batches of IRMA's flagship Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Rural Management) - the PGDM(RM) - celebrated JOY DAY, in remembrance of Late Mr. Sanjoy Ghose, alumnus of the first batch (1980-82).
Late Mr. Ghose, fondly known as 'Joy', changed the face of rural development in the country with his selfless contribution in Assam and Rajasthan. He built institutions that continue to work for the underserved around the country.
The Guest of Honour was Smt. Sumita Ghose, Founder and Managing Director, Rangsutra Crafts India Ltd., while Dr. Shreekant Sambrani, the first Member Secretary and Director of IRMA, along with Joy's batch-mates and representatives from organizations like Urmul Trust, Urmul Seemant Samiti, Urmul Setu, Urmul Seemant Samiti, Desert Resource Center, Charkha, AVARD - NE (Association of Voluntary Agencies for Rural Development, North East), among others were also present.
Joy was a rural development activist known for his pioneering contributions to community health and development. He is believed to have been killed by United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) militants in the river island of Majuli on the Brahmaputra river around 4 July 1997.
He was inspired by the ideals propagated by IRMA and dedicated his life to serving the underserved.
