Flying over deep water, heavily forested areas or over wired crops (vineyards, hops) without planning for engine failure frequently turns tragic for unprepared pilots. Drowning, unfortunately, has claimed a number of ultralight pilots in recent years, with paragliders in particular.
Risks can be mitigated with careful route planning, equipment (ELT, survival gear) and pilot experience.
