STORYLINE:
Two NATO soldiers and six civilians were injured on Tuesday when a suicide bomber targeted a NATO convoy in southern Afghanistan.
The blast struck the convoy in Kandahar city, injuring the soldiers and damaging two of their vehicles, an alliance spokesman said.
The six injured civilians were taken to Kandahar's hospital where two are said to be in a serious condition, according to hospital staff.
The blast was seen by several eye-witnesses although the number of injured was not clear at first.
"There was a car that exploded near to the NATO convoy. Two NATO vehicles were damaged and three civilians were wounded. I don't know the NATO casualties" said Nisar Ahmed who was nearby when the bomb went off.
The blast was the fifth suicide attack in the Kandahar area this week.
Two Canadian soldiers were killed last Monday by a suicide car bomb just outside the city.
A record number of suicide and roadside bombs have been launched by Taliban militants this year.
Some four thousand people have died in the growing insurgency, particularly in the south and east of Afghanistan.
Since November the 18th there have been 11 suicide attacks in the country, according to a spokesman for the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.
