Auroville, an experimental township founded in 1968, is located in Tamil Nadu, India, near Puducherry. Conceived by Mirra Alfassa, also known as "The Mother," the spiritual collaborator of Indian philosopher Sri Aurobindo, Auroville was envisioned as a place where people from all over the world could live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, politics, and nationalities.
