For his third single from the album “The Voice of Strauss”, Harry Coseman radically revisited a famous Strauss polka. “Tritsch-Tratsch” was originally written by Johann Strauss II in 1858 after a tour of Russia. The title refers to one of Vienna’s great pastimes in the mid-nineteenth century: gossip. “Chit-Chat Polka” updates it to the world’s most powerful gossip machine: social media.
“People don’t realise how modern the Strauss family was,” says Coseman. “They wrote waltzes about the technology of their time, such as telegraphs and the new steam trains that revolutionized travel in Europe. There is no question that they would have dedicated a song to Facebook!”
The lyrics, by Michael Leahy, play on the ambiguity of putting everything online and then deploring the lack of privacy. The track was recorded in Europe with the STRATO-VANI Orchestra. The video was recorded in Los Angeles – the heart of the entertainment gossip machine.
