This will be a shallow, short dive with the primary objective to find
and collect Antarctic krill. The dive site is ~300m depth. We will descend slowly to
collect footage of any krill in the water column and then will transit slowly in an
eastward direction looking for krill. If we see krill near the seafloor, we will collect
them using the suction sampler. We will use the bottom time to search for krill if we
don’t encounter them immediately. This will involve spending time sitting on the
seafloor with all lights on for up to 30 minutes, and then transiting in whatever
direction makes the most sense given the current direction. In addition, we will
collect a seawater sample and sediment core if krill are collected.
