This video shows the launching of a crab trap with a shore crabbing pole.
The shore crabbing pole is a flotation device attached to the end of a very long pole. The pole is laid on the shore with the float at the waters edge. This is a tool designed to place crab traps a distance from shore out into the water. The crabbing pole in the video is 60 feet long and 100 feet or more is very conceivable. Other potential uses: shore fishing, soundings, life saving.
This is a very safe crabbing tool. There is never a need for the operator to enter the water, so it is safe for children and non-swimmers.
This crabbing pole is my invention after years of crabbing from shore. There is no co-inventor. The simplicity of this pole suggests that something like this must have been invented before, but a quick search on the internet showed that if this tool is in use somewhere, it is very rare.
Therefore, I encourage you to build (or have someone build it for you) a shore crabbing pole for yourself. For a clear conscience please send me $5 US. Should you profit from my invention, I will of course expect a percentage of the profits.
This is a great year to crab the bays, estuaries and inlets, and there's nothing better than crab with melted butter! Have fun!
Sincerely,
Timothy Carter
