영국, CPTPP 가입 공식 신청…"큰 변화는 없을 것"

The UK made a formal request to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership or CPTPP on Monday.
Hoping to open new avenues for post-Brexit trade, the British government said joining the 11-member partnership would remove tariffs on food, drink and cars, while boosting the technology and service sectors.
"...what we want to do is place Britain at the heart of that global growth, selling in things like services and digital, where distance matters less."
The request comes on the first anniversary of Britain's formal departure from the European Union.
With negotiations set to start, the group's vetting process means it may take over a year for the country to be recognized as an official member...but little change is expected as the UK is already making deals with most CPTPP members.
