Thomas Allison is training in the lab of Kathrin Plath. His research focuses on finding stem cell-based therapies for neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. In this video, he describes how he’s working to understand which genes are involved in creating mature and fully functioning neurons in laboratory dishes using human embryonic stem cells. He hopes his research will result in disease models that can be used to discover drugs or regenerative treatment options for patients with neurological disorders.
