Just downstream from Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park on September 1, 2022, three fishermen did not heed the National Park Service directive to always put at least 50 yards between themselves and bears. Instead, they refused to back off to give their fishing spot to a bear who was agitated by their presence. The well-being of bears and visitors should always be taken into consideration by minimizing any interaction between bears and humans. Luckily for all involved the bear backed down.
