Canary wood - beautiful rich texture and engravings look amazing
Pine - very light soft looking wood. watch out for the texture messing up your engraving
Cherry - very easy to get a high res greyscale engraving on
Walnut - very pretty very rich looking wood,, but it is dark. it may be hard to contrast
Poplar - very white wood. can be hard to greyscale
Aromatic Cedar (Tennessee cedar) - just has a fun and interesting look
Mirrors - They stink when your engraving them but look super cool
Rock - this is a pebble someone found outside. granite engraves really nice too.
Hickory - sort of light and very wood looking
Sapele - really vibrant texture
Mahogany - ugly stinky wood
I forgot:
Teak - kinda boring
Birch - also boring to look at but can be easy to cut
Leather - engraves well / smells like burning flesh and hair
Felt - cuts nice and leaves a cauterized edge so there is no fraying.
